Alpha is the first letter of the NATO Phonetic Alphabet, corresponding to the letter "A". The word Alpha is normally used instead of that letter in all communications.
The term "Alpha" is typically used as the Callsign for the first Squad in the first Infantry Platoon. Since almost all missions include at least one infantry platoon, this callsign is one of the most common.
Uses
• The first Squad in the first (or only) Infantry Platoon is almost always called "Alpha". If there are players on two or more Sides of a mission, each side may have its own Alpha squad.
• If Alpha Squad has any armed vehicles directly attached to it, whether for transport or close fire support, those vehicles receive the callsign "Alpha Victor", meaning "Alpha Vehicle". This is typically shortened to "Alpha Vic" ("AV" on the map).
• Objectives for Alpha Squad are marked with the letter "A", but will be referred to as "Alpha Objective", "Alpha Rally", "Alpha Resupply", etc.
• In an Armored Company with no infantry present, the callsign "Alpha" will typically be assigned to the first Tank Platoon in that company. All of the above applies equally to this tank platoon.
